Budhmor House is a purpose-built residential home for older people, which is situated in a quiet area of Portree.

Accommodation
It provides accommodation for twenty-nine individuals, in single rooms, eleven of which have en-suite facilities.   There is an ongoing upgrading programme.
 
Services

Aims & Objectives

  • To enable individuals to make a smooth transition from their own homes to residential living.
  • To provide a relaxed, safe environment, where diversity and individual needs are given recognition.
  • To actively promote the self worth and self-esteem of the residents.
  • To assist service users to retain as much independence and skills as is possible.
  • To provide a varied programme of activities and events to meet a range of needs, choices and skills.   Many of the staff are conversant with the Gaelic language.

These aims can be summed up by the CrossReach Mission Statement:

Individual Care Plan
Each service user has a named Key Worker and this worker is responsible for ensuring that the current programme of care is appropriate to the resident’s needs.   This programme, or Care Plan as it is commonly known, is updated as required and contents agreed between resident and Key Worker.

Family Involvement
Family and friends are always welcome at Budhmor House as they make a valid contribution to the life of the home.   Members of the Relatives Group accompany residents on regular social outings.

Community Involvement
Individuals will be supported and encouraged to continue or develop any community interests and exercise their rights and privileges as a citizen.   Budhmor House Friends Group is active in promoting the home and in fund raising.

Respite Care
Respite is offered subject to availability of rooms.
 
Facilities

Other Services include:

  • Budhmor’s Chaplain and local ministers all of whom are available for spiritual guidance arrange regular worship.
  • Local G.P.s make fortnightly visits as well as being on call when required.
  • Community Nurses, Chiropodist and Dentist visit as required.
  • Optical Services make an annual visit.
  • The WRVS run a shop within the home on a weekly basis and a hairdressing service is available to those who wish to take advantage of this.

Management & Staffing

Management
Budhmor House is managed by CrossReach (Church of Scotland Social Care).

Staff
There is a team of 24 staff made up of day and night care workers, kitchen, domestic and admin staff plus a bank of relief staff.

Admission Procedure

Criteria
All older people whose needs can be met at Budhmor.

Costs
Single room: £561 - £605 (depending on facilities).

Where insufficient private means to fund a placement an agreement must be made with a Local Authority that the placement will be partially or wholly funded.

Referrals Procedure
The applicant would require to be assessed to ensure that the service would meet their needs and would be encouraged to spend a short trial period at Budhmor.

  • Entertainment by local artistes
  • Outings to places of interest
