Children and Families
CrossReach is concerned for the welfare and well being of children, young people and their parents where there is most need, disadvantage or disability. A history of children’s homes, schools and adoption services contributed, particularly, to the service in our two schools. Residential care in our schools offers accommodation, teaching and vocational training, giving a new opportunity for those excluded from the family and/or the community and school (Education Scotland Act 1980: Children Scotland Act 2003). The time spent with the Board is designed to create new skills, a new perspective and a new start when boys return to home and community. Each service is registered but with a dual inspection by Care Commission and HM Inspectorate of Education and our own high Quality Standards.
In Dundee we are trying to redevelop our service to families. We also recognise the work with children through the ‘Sunflower Garden’ Project.
We also provide two units for children with complex learning and physical disability, each offering residential and respite care. This can range from addressing challenging behaviour to caring for those unable to care for themselves in any way at all. These services are designed to enhance and improve each child’s quality of life and are registered and inspected by the Care Commission.
The most recent document Protecting Children and Young People will also underpin our work.
