The Elms

The Elms is a large Victorian mansion owned by CrossReach which is the Social Care Council arm of the Church of Scotland. It is situated in the Grange Area of Edinburgh and is set in extensive grounds.

The Elms will provide a specialist service to older people with dementia, who can no longer live safely at home or in another residential setting. This will be achieved in a safe, secure and homely environment, by knowledgeable, caring staff who promote the Service User’s wellbeing by respecting their dignity, choice and rights at all times.

Individual Care Plan
On admission a Key Worker will be appointed. The Key Worker will work closely with the Service User and family. Under the guidance of the Service Manager and Deputy Manager a plan of care “needs” will be formulated.

Following a 6-week assessment period, a meeting is held with Service User, family, Key Worker and Service Manager. This allows all involved to share issues, and give opinions, after which a Care Plan is drawn up. A review will be held in 6 weeks and again the Care Plan will be updated as required. Following this, reviews are held 6 monthly.

"Grateful thanks for Mums care and for the peace of mind we felt in choosing the right place" Previous Relative

There are day and night care workers offering full 24-hour individualised care.

"A lot of hard work at The Elms, the staff cope with Christmas Festivities and open afternoon teas with success and sensitivity for relatives and friends, at what can be an emotional time, Birthday celebrations and the use of facebook to share social events is fantastic and the open door policy that has been adopted for relatives is tremendous and not something all homes encourage"  - Current Relative of The Elms

Admission Procedure

Anyone using the service of the Elms should have a diagnosis of dementia and a community care assessment from Social Work Services. We ask that all new potiential service users come to The Elms and spend an afternoon with the staff and other service users.

"Thanks for all the care you gave my Granma over the last five years,  the respect the residents are given and welcoming attitude to their families is much appreciated" - Previous Relative

The cost of care in the Elms is dependent on the individual’s personal circumstances.   A financial assessment will be made by Social Work Services.

As a specialist dementia home, our costs compare favourably with those of other homes in the area currently £887 per week. This cost is exclusive of Telephone Calls, Personal Toiletries, Hairdressing, Podiatry, Dental and Optical Services and daily newspapers. Senior Staff can advise you on these matters at your request.

All current charges can be found here
