Morven Day Services
The Morven Centre (as part of Morven Day Services) is situated in North West Kilmarnock.
Accommodation
There is no residential accommodation available at The Morven Centre, this is purely a day care centre.
Services
Aims & Objectives
· To offer a range of quality day services which are accessible to people with mental health problems living in East Ayrshire.
· To involve service users in the planning and development of the service.
· To support service users to become part of their community.
· To provide varied therapeutic opportunities and support according to individual need.
· To seek opportunities and encourage service users to contribute to the consultation and planning process for mental health services.
· To work collaboratively with other statutory and voluntary agencies, service users and carers to provide an overall range of services for people with mental health problems.
· The quality of our service is monitored against set standards. These are available at all times and we welcome your comments on these.
Individual Care Plan
Since 1992 resources have been developed to bridge the gap in services for individuals with mental health problems. The project comprises of five distinct services.
· “Morven Centre”
· “H.I.V.E.”
· “Action for All”
· “Community Guides”
· “Outreach service for adults over sixty five years”
· Use of services is flexible according to individual needs.
Morven Centre
· The Morven Centre is a day resource service for people with mental health problems who live in East Ayrshire. The centre is situated in Kilmarnock.
· A varied therapeutic programme is available which can boost confidence, self esteem and provide a focus to daily life.
The centre provides a supportive environment where people can learn new skills, meet and make new friends.
Family Involvement
Informal support is available for carers on an ongoing basis. Periodically carers’ information sessions are organised.
Community Involvement
The service is very much a community-based service with outreach services supporting people throughout East Ayrshire.
One of the main focuses of the service is on enabling people to access and be part of their community.
Facilities
Other Services include:
H.I.V.E.
· Health in the Valley Enterprise is an outreach service for adults who live in the Irvine Valley.
· The group enables people to meet new friends, learn new skills, and receive support and encouragement.
Action for All
· The “Action for All” volunteer support project offers a service to people who are interested in accessing volunteering.
· Action for All” encourages individuals to try something new, acquire new skills, build confidence and gain a sense of achievement.
“Action for All” will provide the individual with the support, information, links and introductions to voluntary agencies.
Community Guides
· Community Guides provide a one-to-one service to individuals who are experiencing mental health problems throughout East Ayrshire including Cumnock & Doon Valley.
· By enabling people to become part of their local communities.
· By supporting people to access local resources.
· By accompanying people to places of interest to increase confidence and self esteem.
To establish and maintain new networks of friends.
“Outreach service for adults over sixty five years”
· This service operates in three separate locations within East Ayrshire – Kilmarnock and Cumnock.
· The service is available to people aged over 65 years who have a mental health problem. The focus is on promoting and maintaining good mental health and well-being.
A range of therapeutic options are available to choose from which will enable people to access new opportunities, make new friends, boost confidence and self worth.
Management & Staffing
Management
CrossReach (Church of Scotland Social Care) manages the project.
Staff
The staff group consists of:
· Service Manager.
· Deputy Service Manager.
· Outreach Development Coordinator.
· Project Workers.
· Caretaker/Handyman.
· Community Guides.
· Administrative staff.
Admission Procedure
Criteria
The service is available to people living in East Ayrshire who have a mental health problem.
An open referral system operates and access to the service can be made through a simple telephone call.
Costs
Each of the services are free to all who access them.
Referrals Procedure
At The Morven Centre there is an open referral system, contact to be made first with staff at the Centre by letter or telephone who will arrange an initial visit at the centre or the person's home.
Users should be aged 18 years or older, and be:
· Resident in East Ayrshire
· Have contact with Psychiatric/ Psychological, Medical Services or ongoing Mental Health Problems
Activities
The focus of the service is on promoting good mental health and well-being. Therefore in order to assist and enable people to realise their desires, any potential and opportunities are identified and created on an ongoing basis.
Options include:
Art, Relaxation, Creative Writing, Drama, Pool, Discussion groups, Music,
Tapestry, Rug making, Computing, Football, Horse riding, Abseiling, Canoeing, Ten Pin Bowling, to name but a few!!!!!
