In some respects, the time has flown by since their first meeting in 1948 and it seems like no time since John Pringle’s heart was captivated by the pretty Evelyn Packwood as they met for the first time at a dance in Edinburgh.

The sixth and final day of CrossReach Week 2016 began with a visit to CrossReach Threshold Edinburgh.


Having completed part of his training in Gogarburn Hospital in the 1970’s, Rt Rev Dr Barr noted his delight at seeing some of the people who he said would have undoubtedly lived there at that time, now living in their own tenancies.

As a resettlement project in Glasgow, CrossReach’s Kirkhaven Project provides accommodation, support and social care to single men and women aged 18-65 who have complex needs and who are currently homeless.

Stunning blue skies welcomed the Rt Rev Dr & Mrs Barr as they arrived in Shetland this morning for a second focus on the support offered by CrossReach Services to Older People.  This time, their attention was given to residential support and they visited the Walter and Joan Gray care home in Scalloway.

Having recently made the transition from living in the Ballikinrain campus to taking up residency in the 4 bedroom Finniescroft Farm, two of the boys we support were keen to welcome Rt Rev Dr and Mrs Barr to their home today.

The bright Autumn sun could not outshine the warmth of welcome provided by The Oasis Garelochhead today.   Known for its excellence in quality the staff and clients took great delight in sharing this morning’s activities with its distinguished guests.
