Rainbow House is situated in the West End of Glasgow, in purpose built facilities which opened in November 2011. The service looks out onto Victoria Park, and the local area has excellent amenities including shops, health services, library, Scotstoun leisure centre, cafes and restaurants.
The area is well served with bus and train services nearby.  Car parking is available and the service is just off the Clydeside Expressway and close to the Clyde Tunnel.
There are 17 single rooms all with modern furnishings and ensuite facilities. The kitchen provides a healthy variety of food during the initial period of stay then service users are supported to cater for themselves in two independent living areas where skills are developed in preparation for moving on. There are several communal areas including a gym, IT suite, art & craft room, groupwork and counselling rooms.   

Services Aims & Objectives

The aim of the service is to provide a safe and supportive environment, where the service user will have the opportunity to explore the reasons for their substance use and to identify what personal changes they will require to enable them to maintain a substance free lifestyle. This aim is met by the following objectives:

  • Promoting Physical and Mental Health
  • Providing an environment where all service users commit to being drug and alcohol free
  • Providing a Therapeutic programme of recovery based on the principles of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and individual counselling
  • Introducing a range of activities to promote reflection, develop new skills and to celebrate recovery
  • To promote education and volunteering
  • To faciltate the involvement of family and others who can contribute to long term recovery. 

Admission Procedure

Anyone can self refer and referrals are welcome from Care Managers, Health Professionals, Social Workers, Employers, Criminal Justice Services etc.

Visits to the service are encouraged and a full assessment will be carried out to inform your Recovery Plan.

Contact the service for current costs. Funding may be available through a local Community Addiction Team or Health and Social Work Partnership. Service users who receive benefits are expected to contribute to their care costs but retain a proportion of their benefit as a personal allowance.

Additional Information

A medically supervised detoxification can be arranged to allow access the residential rehabilitation service. This includes detox for Opiate substitutes - Methdone (max 60ml), Buprenorphine/Subutex, Benzodiazipines and Alcohol. The doctor overseeing this phase can provide further information on request. The Detoxification phase is normally limited to 30 days.
