War Hero & Award Winning Therapet Make a Winning Combination

We are delighted that resident WWII hero RAF Veteran Duncan Currie has once again found himself featured in the national press – but this time he shared the limelight with the loveable and gentle Megan – Canine Concern Scotland Trust’s 2016 Therapet of the Year.

As a resident of South Beach House, Mr Currie looks forward to Megan’s monthly visits to the home and was very happy to be featured with her when photographer Alasdair MacLeod of the Daily Record wanted to snap her in action.

Having learned of Megan’s award in November 2016, Alasdair approached her owner, Linda Whitby, to find out if he could photograph Megan fulfilling her Therapet duties.  It was his hope to enter the Assistance Dogs and Dog Charities category of the 2017 Kennel Club Dog Photographer of The Year competition.

A few phone calls later and with media permissions all in place, Megan and Linda were accompanied by Alasdair during one of their visits to South Beach House.

Oblivious to her endearing photogenic qualities, Megan set about saying ‘hello’ to all her friends, including best pal - Mr Currie.  The soft snapping of the camera shutter was almost unnoticeable as the residents enjoyed their amiable guest.

After the visit was over, Alasdair set to looking through what seemed to be innumerable images and he found there was just something about the unspoken connection between Megan and Mr Currie that seemed to shine as ‘the one’ for his competition entry.

His decision was well placed!  In June 2017, Megan and Mr Currie’s beautiful image was chosen as the winner of the category

Thank you to Alasdair, Linda and Megan for making such a lovely memory.
