A Wasteland Has Become Something Wonderful

There have been new developments at our Cameron House specialist residential home for people who have dementia, and they are coming along nicely!

Earlier in the year residents, their family members and staff created a specially designed plan to develop a garden in an unused area at the back of the House.  Research based, the aim was to establish an area that encourages meaningful activity in a pleasant and safe environment.

The plan was finalised and seeing the great potential of the plan, the Cameron House Friends Group put a plan of their own into place that would raise awareness of and fundraise for the project.  We are overwhelmed at the result!

The generosity and goodwill has been almost immeasurable. Members of the local community, families, friends, local companies and groups (including schools) have donated resources of time, skills, energy and finances. Together with funding granted from the Ena Baxter Foundation, Scotmid North and Morgan Sindall the collective effort has ensured the hopes and dreams poured into the plan earlier in the year, are becoming a reality.

Now that the raised beds are in place, the wide path has been laid, the fence has been completed and all the finishing touches of the building and landscaping have been done, we look forward with anticipation to planting non-toxic plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables.

The garden will be officially opened in September and we look forward to sharing further developments at that time.

In the meantime, you can enjoy some of the photos from the project here.

Thank you to everyone who has made this possible.
