Here at Cale House in Inverness, we provide support to homeless adults so that they can plan for their future and help create a support plan that will prepare them for the day they move on.

There are two distinct aspects to this role, providing outreach support to individuals who are moving on from supported accommodation and overseeing the delivery of a befriending service for individuals who are moving from supported accommodation, or who have recently experienced homelessness.  We work closely together as a team so there’s always someone to talk to and we all help each other out wherever we can.

This is a temporary post for a minimum of two years.

Salary is pro rata of 38.5 hours per week.

Main Function

The post holder will have two distinct aspects to their role:

Providing outreach support to individuals who are moving on from supported accommodation. This will involve meeting up with the person on a regular basis to hear how they are progressing and offer support as required.

Overseeing the delivery of a befriending service for individuals who are moving from supported accommodation, or who have recently experienced homelessness. This will involve working with organisations and the wider community to identify volunteer befrienders, recruitment of volunteers, training of volunteers and supervision and support to the volunteer befrienders.

In both roles they will be supported by the Service Manager and/or the Team Leader.

They will also have responsibility to:

  • Liaise with statutory and other voluntary agencies to ensure a coordinated approach is developed to benefit people who use the service.
  • Work with your line manager to ensure that policies and procedures necessary for the service are in place and adhered to.

Main Duties

Outreach Support

  • Meet with individuals and workers involved in their support, prior to them moving on from the Service, to agree a Transitional Support plan which reflects the needs and aspirations of the person and the outcomes they wish to achieve. This plan should set out the level, frequency and duration of support that will be provided.
  • Provide support to the individual for the agreed length of time, in a manner which promotes progression to a more independent lifestyle.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of individual support plans, working with the person to achieve their desired outcomes in a way that supports choice and control of their plan, including enabling risk.
  • Ensure the highest standards in delivery of support in recording and communications while demonstrating best practice.
  • Be responsible for the management of own case load ensuring ongoing support planning.
  • Contribute to the development of individual risk assessments.
  • Maintain appropriate communications with colleagues and external agencies for benefit of the person being supported and for the protection of your own role.

Befriending Co-ordinator

  • Recruitment of volunteers through advertising and interviews.
  • Develop procedures and processes for lone workers to ensure the safety of the befriender.
  • Ensure that all legal requirements for working with vulnerable people are met.
  • Keep a record of volunteers (including contact details, application forms, supervision notes etc).
  • Facilitate and arrange training and induction for volunteers.
  • Provide regular supervision and support for volunteers.
  • Administer befrienders’ expenses.
  • Develop procedures and processes for matching befrienders and befriendees.
  • Participate in the first meeting of the service user and befriender.
  • Monitor progress of matches.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records of the activity and outcomes of the project to enable review and evaluation.
  • Collect feedback from befrienders during and at the end of engagement with an individual.
  • Provide written reports to stakeholders and relevant others as required.
  • Work with Befriending networks to ensure best practice is met.

GENERAL

  • Responsible for own professional development and participation in continuing education to ensure evidence based practice.
  • To demonstrate and share Christian love and support including sharing with others the leading of worship in accordance with CrossReach policy and by ensuring all staff meetings are opened with prayer and Bible reading.

Qualifications

Ideally you will possess an SVQ 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.

Should you meet the other requirements of the post but who lack this qualification you may be supported to achieve this.

Skills and Abilities

Essential:

  • Possess basic computer literacy skills including use of Microsoft and Office.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with homeless or other vulnerable adults.
  • Strong understanding of Professional Boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
