CrossReach Counselling East provides a wide range of therapeutic support and counselling for individuals or couples.  Anyone can contact us for therapeutic support for any life challenge they may be facing.  We also have specialist expertise in working with children and young people, those affected by substance use and with those expecting a baby or with an infant up to two years old.  Support is delivered from our city centre premises at Queen Street and Palmerston Place as well as over the phone and online.

 

This is a new Managing Co-Ordinator role within our counselling services and you will be responsible for the overall management and development of the services based within our Edinburgh City Centre premises.

What do I need?  A qualification at Diploma level in Counselling or relevant qualification eg qualified Social Worker or first level Registered Nurse and ideally a qualification in Training and Clinical Supervision/Reflective Practices.  To do this role you will need post qualification experience working in with a substance use/recovery or additions service.  You will also need to be able to work to a broad remit where priorities can change on a daily basis.  The post will require a degree of travel at times.

Main Function

The post holder  will have responsibility for the overall management and development of two of the services based within our Edinburgh City Centre premises. Our Sunflower Garden service work with children aged between 5 to 18 within the City of Edinburgh who are affected by drug or alcohol use in their families, and our Counselling and Recovery Service which offers confidential counselling and recovery sessions to help people move on from substance dependency. 

In conjunction with the Head of Service and other members of the Leadership Team the post holder will contribute to and deliver a comprehensive multi-disciplinary service.

As part of the multidisciplinary team you will be an experienced practitioner, whose role as service lead will be to manage and support all staff to provide high quality, evidence based assessment, evaluation and care delivery of a range of interventions that best meet the needs of those accessing substance use and recovery services.  

You will demonstrate leadership and management skills to provide guidance to all staff and to contribute to the continuous development of services.

They will be responsible for achieving the highest professional standards of social care practice and for ensuring that CrossReach's aims, objectives and standards are met and maintained.  Through Christian leadership, he/she will ensure that these services reflect CrossReach's Christian ethos and mission statement.

Main Duties

SERVICE DELIVERY

  1. To implement and uphold the organisations aims, objectives, policies and procedures.
  1. The post holder will be responsible for the overarching management of the substance use and counselling and recovery services, and will ensure that the delegation of work to the team takes account of the role, skills and practice and is appropriate to their scope of practice.
  1. Working as part of the multi-professional team, if required the Managing Co-Ordinator will undertake assessments of clients’ needs ensuring and co-ordinating plans of care, using their skills to provide clinical guidance on treatment and care in accordance with best practice guidelines and evidence based practice.
  1. Promote equality for all individuals.
  1. Contribute to the protection of individuals from harm and uphold a "duty to care".
  1. Maintain an efficient system of administration in conjunction with the Business Support Manager.
  1. Ensure that records are confidentially maintained in the context of an open access policy.
  1. Ensure and promote high professional standards at every level of the service.
  1. To have the experience and skill to deliver training in evidence-based substance use and recovery interventions.
  1. Identify emerging needs of the client group. Consult, report and advise the Head of Service and wider CrossReach Corporate Management Team.
  1. Monitor the demand upon the services.
  1. In collaboration with business support colleagues, ensure that the physical environment is adequate and that Health and Safety standards are implemented and maintained.
  1. Delegate appropriate tasks.
  1. Liaise with relevant professional bodies across health, counselling, social work, pastoral care services and any other related field.
  1. Establish and maintain professional relationships with other relevant agencies.
  1. To participate as a senior member of the CrossReach Counselling & Community Leadership Team at meetings and contribute to policy development and report preparation.
  1. Ensure that all aspects of risk management are undertaken.
  1. Ensure that all legislation and policy requirements are met.
  1. Co-ordinate Disclosure (Scotland) applications.
  1. To prepare any reporting and funding documents, with appropriate data, as and when required.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Practice is guided by professional and organisational policy, protocols, guidelines and procedures and the post holder is also required to make decisions that are informed by the legal and ethical framework within which they, and the staff they manage, operate within.
  1. To implement any appropriate CrossReach quality assurance policies.
  1. To work towards COSCA accredited membership, and any other future regulatory / registration requirements.

FINANCIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT

  1. Be responsible for the management and monitoring of the annual operating budget and be involved in the preparation of annual budgets and the provision of financial information for their service area.
  1. Ensure that client records are maintained in line with CrossReach policies.
  1. To establish and maintain systems to gather, record and store information/data and to ensure staff understanding and adherence to the data protection policy
  1. Co-operate with and promote income generation activities for the areas of the service not covered by commissioning arrangements.

PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

  1. Be responsible for the recruitment and selection of staff within delegated powers or to be involved in recruitment as required.
  1. Be responsible for direct and regular line management supervision and appraisal of staff.
  1. Seek development and training opportunities for staff through all available channels.
  1. To create a culture of open communication.
  2. To hold overall responsibility for the management and deployment of staff/volunteers and identifying workforce requirements.  To convene regular and minuted staff meetings.
  3. To keep volunteers regularly informed on the work and development of the service.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  1. To keep abreast of current developments in the substance use, recovery, social care and counselling fields and continually review the work of the service to ensure that the highest standards of work are achieved and that all legislative and policy requirements are met.
  2. To attend meetings, training courses and seminars as required.

LIAISON

  1. To promote the Service within the local community and to maintain close working relationships with all relevant professionals involved in the field of substance use, recovery and counselling.

GENERAL MANAGEMENT

  1. To be responsible for all aspects of Health and Safety within the Service.
  2. To interpret and analyse information in order to facilitate problem solving and decision making.
  3. To advise and inform others in areas of one's specialism.
  4. To undertake other duties as may reasonably fall within the parameters of the post as delegated by Head of Service and Corporate Management Team.
  5. To demonstrate and share Christian love and support including sharing with others the leading of worship in accordance with CrossReach policy and by ensuring all staff meetings are opened with prayer and Bible reading.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Diploma in Counselling or other relevant qualification and registration with PSA or Completion of training as a first level Registered Nurse with a currently valid registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or an Occupational Therapist registered with the Health Professions  Council or a qualified Social Worker registered with the Scottish Social Services Council
  • At least two years post qualification experience working with a substance use/recovery or addictions service.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development within the field.

Desirable:

  • Training in Clinical Supervision/Reflective Practice.
  • Management training.

  • Previous experience within counselling/psychological therapies setting.
  • People management and leadership skills.
  • Change management skills.
