At Sunflower Gardens we recognise that every child and young person is different and our multi-disciplinary team offers a range of services through a family outreach service, individual counselling and art therapy and Group work for children affected by parental alcohol use.
You will need to be qualified to Degree level in Social Work, Health, Education, Art/Play Therapy or equivalent or to diploma level in Counselling. You will also need a full driving licence and access to a vehicle in order to provide one to one support in the outreach service. Main Function
To work together as a team to provide care and support appropriate to the needs of the individual child or young person. To provide this care and support in the residential setting, the community and the home. To plan and implement activities to meet the individual needs and aspirations of service users. To ensure the highest quality of service delivery. To model good Social Care practice.
Main Duties
- To promote work that meets CrossReach and the National Standards.
- To promote the aims and objectives of the service.
- To be involved in the general day to day care and support of the children.
- To participate in regular supervision.
- To carry out the agreed Behaviour Support Strategy Plans.
- To promote effective communication.
- To support the families and carers of the children and young people.
- To promote social inclusion initiatives.
- To empower children to access local services and leisure opportunities.
- To contribute to the strategic development of the service.
- To undertake a flexible pattern of shifts.
- To undertake other duties as directed by Senior Staff to meet the needs of children and the aims of the unit.
- To undertake training to meet development needs.
- Have respect for all aspects of Christian worship.
- Facilitate Service Users to attend Christian worship (or worship of choice as required by the role).
Qualifications
Ideally you will be qualified to SVQ3 in Social Services (Children & Young People) and HNC level or be committed to gaining these qualifications.
Personal
An interest in working with children and young people who have disabilities, some of which can lead to challenging behaviour.
As we do our work in Christ’s name you must be respectful of our Christian Ethos and be able to work within it.
This post requires you to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and undertake the necessary vetting checks.
This post requires you to be registered with SSSC and it is your professional responsibility to ensure that you meet the standards & criteria for registration.
Skills and Abilities
Previous experience working with children.
Previous experience in Learning Disability.
Postholder must possess basic computer literacy skills including use of Microsoft Office and the internet.
