Every day at Threshold Community and Support our team provides a wide range of support to people with learning disabilities living throughout Hamilton.  We help them to lead ordinary lives, participating in their local communities and activities of their choice.  This means creating a safe, secure and supportive environment and empowering them to take charge of their own lives and live life to the full. 

Now's your opportunity to widen your experience within social care by having a hybrid role of support worker with senior responsibility.  This will help to develop your skills in leadership as well as provide a way of balancing the role of support work and management.  It can be combined with a support worker role if you are currently in this role with 16 hours paid at senior rate.  On call duties will be part of this role.

What do I need?  You will be required to be registered with Scottish Social Services Council and ideally you will have an SVQ Level 3 or 4, or a recognised Social Work or Nursing qualification and a relevant management qualification, as recognised by the SSSC.

Salary is pro rata of 38.5 hours per week.

Main Function

To provide the highest quality and standards of flexible support and care throughout the service, in order to meet the needs and aspirations of service users with a learning disability or an autism spectrum disorder in a range of social settings, or within the home of the service user. There will be an emphasis of leading on the principles of personalisation. Also for ensuring that CrossReach's aims and objectives, quality standards and statutory responsibilities are met and maintained.  Through Christian leadership, he/she will ensure that these services reflect CrossReach's Christian ethos and mission statement. This post requires the post holder to divide their time between support of service users on a one to one basis and supervisory duties. 

Main Duties

  1. To promote equality for all individuals.
  2. To assist with the management of the Service.
  3. To participate in staff meetings.
  4. To be responsible for the assessment, planning, co-ordination and development of service provision to the service users.
  5. To be responsible for the direct and regular supervision and appraisal of staff.
  6. To plan and participate in regular staff meetings.
  7. To assist in the recruitment and selection staff, and to be involved in the selection of Support staff for the Service.
  8. To ensure that CrossReach's personnel policies are implemented and understood by all staff.
  9. To ensure that appropriate procedures are initiated and completed in all matters relating to staff discipline and grievances.
  10. To create a culture of open communication based on trust.
  11. To assist in service based induction training, ongoing training within the service and be accountable to the team leader for the training and development of team members.
  12. To assist with the identification of staff training opportunities, liaising with the appropriate EDO and the People Development Section.
  13. To undertake or facilitate the assessment of staff for SVQs and/or the supervision of students from local colleges or schools.
  14. To share responsibility for all aspects of Health and Safety within the Service, ensuring that CrossReach's Health & Safety Policies and Procedures are implemented and adhered to.
  15. To assist the Team Leader in the promotion of the services and to maintain close working relationships as required, with relevant professionals involved in the support of clients, maintaining effective communication with relatives and friends of service users.
  16. Contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse.
  17. Contribute to the management of aggressive and abusive behavior.
  18. Promote communication with service users.
  19. To provide support to service users consistent with the aims and objectives of the service.
  20. To ensure that a safe, secure and supportive environment is created for all individuals
  21. Promote the wellbeing of all service users in a sensitive caring manner affording them dignity and respect.
  22. To be responsible for particular  specific duties, as directed by the Managing Co-ordinator/Team leader.

FINANCIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT

  1. To ensure that service user records are maintained in line with CrossReach's policies.
  2. To adhere to the established systems for gathering, recording and storing information/data.
  3. To contribute to the preparation, monitoring and management of the annual budget for the service.
  4. To ensure that clients records are maintained in line with Cross Reach’s financial policies.
  5. To ensure that all contractual agreements are adhered to.

SERVICE DELIVERY

  1. To implement and uphold CrossReach's aims, objectives, policies and procedures and ensure that all services are offered in Christ's name.
  2. To ensure that all aspects of risk management are undertaken.
  3. To ensure individual service users receive regular care reviews and that care plans reflect the outcome of these reviews.
  4. To ensure that service users' care plans are adhered to.
  5. To liaise with relatives and friends of service users, where appropriate.
  6. To ensure that the services offered:-
  • promote equality for all individual service users
  • promote service users' choice
  • contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse
  • contribute to the management of aggressive and abusive behaviour
  • promote communication with service users where there are communication difficulties
  • support service users when they are distressed
  • enable service users to make use of available services and information
  • contribute to the health, safety and security of individuals and their environment
  • promote the wellbeing of all service users within a professional Christian framework in a sensitive caring manner affording them dignity and respect.
  • To ensure that all legislative and policy requirements are met.

GENERAL

  •  The post holder will be expected to undertake other relevant and reasonable duties as required by senior management.
  • The post holder will be expected to undertake ‘on call’ duties on a rota basis.
  • To demonstrate and share Christian love and support including sharing with others the leading of worship in accordance with CrossReach policy and by ensuring all staff meetings are opened with prayer and Bible reading.

Qualifications

Ideally, the post holder will possess an SVQ Level 3 or 4, or a recognised Social Work or Nursing qualification and a relevant management qualification as recognised by the SSSC.
