This is a temporary post for one year to provide maternity leave cover.

Main Function

To manage the area of Trusts and Foundations, including undertaking proposals, research and reports to maximise income from trusts, philanthropic grant makers and special project funds. Manage a funding researcher and build and manage strategic relationships across CrossReach projects.

Main Duties

  1. Research, write and submit timely and high quality funding proposals to a wide range of funders, securing grants for complex, multi-year projects.
  2. Work closely with the Head of Fundraising to propose and deliver a trusts and foundation strategy.
  3. Work with service managers across CrossReach to identity fundable projects and activities that are strategically appropriate and will benefit from philanthropic funding.
  4. Maintain relationships with funder trustees and administrators to better understand their funding criteria and ensure appropriate dialogue as part of the research and stewardship process.
  5. Manage a Research Officer and produce regular reports on the trusts and foundation prospect pipelines and progress against target.
  6. Produce briefings on key potential grant makers that match the strategic direction of CrossReach for discussion with senior managers.
  7. Develop work plans to ensure timely and effective submissions to funders and work with appropriate colleagues to gather the necessary information and input to build a case for support.
  8. Work with colleagues on other departments and across the Church of Scotland to embed the ‘impact’ message of CrossReach and its funders into our communications.
  9. Provide advice and direction to service managers on the opportunities for securing funds from trusts, foundations and special project funds to assist them in forward planning.
  10. Record and report (using Raisers Edge) new income secured and projected cash flow resulting from successful applications.
  11. Secure in the region of £280,000 of new funds per year with expectation of meeting increasing targets.
  12. Ensure that grant funders and prosects are appropriately included in cultivation and stewardship activity.
  13. Provide timely and accurate dissemination of proposals and reports internally, encouraging timely returns and accurate recording of outcomes, in a range of reporting media.
  14. To demonstrate and share Christian love and support including sharing with others the leading of worship in accordance with CrossReach policy and by ensuring all staff meetings are opened with prayer and Bible reading.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications demonstrating a high level of numeracy and literacy.
  • Institute of Fundraising Certificate in Fundraising (desirable).

Skills and Abilities

Essential:

  • A minimum of four years’ experience of fundraising from trusts and foundations or other grant-making bodies (essential)
  • Significant experience in successfully applying for funding for complex, multi-year projects, including grants of six-figures and above.
  • Experience of working closely with team members and managing staff or volunteers.
  • Evidence of meeting income targets and deadlines.
  • An eye for detail and ability to anticipate funders’ requirements and spot opportunities and synergies between CrossReach’s work and the interests of funders.
  • Experience of writing complex proposals and gathering information for this purpose from a wide range of sources.
  • Experience of leading on developing proposals for funders involving colleagues and service managers.
  • Experience of working with Finance colleagues to develop income projections and report on cash flow resulting from successful applications.
  • Experience of working with senior colleagues to discuss key proposals.
  • Experience on producing accurate and timely feedback reports to funders and working with others to gather the information needed.
  • Experience of developing a ‘pipeline’ of prospective funders and managing a workplan to submit proposals.
  • A team player with diplomacy, tact and proven ability to build working relationships with other departments.
  • Experience of providing impact reports, progress and income reports.
  • The postholder must be proficient in all MS Office packages and have experience of using online application forms and fundraising CRMs such as Raisers Edge.
