Career's Day another success in Erskine
11 September 2024
Fun and games were enjoyed at our annual Career’s Day at Erskine Waterfront Campus last week.
The event first ran in 2020 to give youngsters an insight into career opportunities available to them as well as allowing them to experience the practical side of some of these careers by experiencing live demonstrations. It has since become an annual event.
By giving the students the chance to learn practical skills from these professionals, it provides an opportunity for them to gain an understanding of what career paths could be available for them.
This year’s event was attended by various local schools, community groups and initiatives including youth group Kibble, The Good Shepherd Centre, Parks Mains High School, Trinity High School, St Anne’s Primary School, Dalry Primary School, Bishopton Primary School and Little Pandas Nursery.
The youngsters from the groups were able to interact with a host of services and groups supporting the community including CrossReach service Daisy Chain.
Other groups in attendance were: Ashleigh (Scot) Construction, The Princes Trust, SRUC, Glasgow City College, Street League, Invest in Renfrewshire, St Mirren Foundation, Active Schools, Hamilton Brothers, Police Scotland, Falck Fire Service from Glasgow Airport, Fire Scotland, Glasgow Airport Airside Operations, The Animal Man, Lamont Farm Project and the SSPCA.
CrossReach service Daisy Chain, which provides play-based interventions designed to improve the lives and life chances of children under eight, operated a popular interactive Jenga game which was popular with visitors.
DJ JOD was on hand too all afternoon providing live music for all those in attendance.
Emma Heaney, employability mentor at Erskine Waterfront Campus and organiser of the event, said the day was a huge success and thanked those in attendance for their support.
