CrossReach supports Scotland Demands Better march
21 October 2025
This Saturday, we will join the Church of Scotland and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh for the Scotland Demands Better march, the civil society movement calling on our politicians to prioritise tackling poverty as we approach the May 2026 Scottish Parliament election.
We will join at least 5,000 people at the march, organised by The Poverty Alliance, which represents 400 organisations including the Church of Scotland.
The march calls for three things to help tackle poverty, better jobs, better investment in life’s essentials such as housing, transport, healthcare and education, and better social security.
Statistics show that more than 1 million (20%) of people in Scotland live below the poverty line, with 23% of children living in poverty. This figure is unacceptable.
Rt Rev Rosie Frew, Moderator of the General Assembly, spoke at the official launch of Scotland Demands Better in June.
She said: "The Bible calls on us to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly.
"The Church is determined to be visible and vocal about the injustice and oppression that is happening around us.
"We welcome the Scotland Demands Better march and our presbyteries and congregations across the country will be actively involved, helping to bring Christ's compassion into our public life."
We encourage as many people as possible to join us at 10.30am outside the Scottish Parliament and help us demand better from our government.
