Going the distance for South Beach House - Walking from Land's End to John O’Groats, but never leaving Ayrshire!

Lilian presents a cheque to residents and staff at South Beach House, Ardrossan

We are constantly amazed at the ingenious ways people choose to show their support for us, and Lilian Tetlow’s recent 874 mile walk has been nothing short of inspiring.

“As charities couldn’t do fundraisers due to lockdown I wanted to help someone out” Lilian told us.  “South Beach House is where both my late Gran and late Dad spent their final days. Gran lived there for 12.5 years, Dad 8.5 months.”

Having chosen her fundraising cause, she then decided to take on the Land's End to John O’ Groats Virtual Challenge as her way to support the care home in Ardrossan.

She downloaded the App to log her progress and walked the equivalent distance (874 miles) whilst never leaving her local area. All in all, she raised a fantastic £625.

The walk took me just over 9.5 months. Feedback from the home was that some of the monies raised enabled the residents to enjoy a Valentines party with entertainments. I’m absolutely delighted.”

Maureen Grier, Service Manager, said that “Lilian is a much-loved supporter of the home, who has fundraised for and helped out at events over the years. Residents and staff look forward to when we can invite Lilian over for a visit and thank her in person – but until then they share their heartfelt thanks and huge well done!”

The remaining money will go towards social activities in the home, planned by the Activities Coordinators.

Thank you Lilian!
