Lord High Commissioner HRH Prince William, visits Queen's Bay Lodge

CrossReach was honoured to welcome Prince William in his role as Lord High Commissioner of the General Assembly of The Church of Scotland on Sunday.

After receiving Lucas of Edinburgh ice cream (with a flake!), The Earl of Strathearn spent time mingling and chatting to residents from Queen's Bay Lodge care home and at one point was cheekily challenged by Viv Dickenson, CEO of CrossReach, about flirting with 96 yr old resident Betty Magee who told the Duke that "it was customary in these parts to give a lady a kiss". Blushing, the Earl said he'd come back once the restrictions were lifted further and give her a kiss on the cheek!

Taking time to visit the Reminiscence area, the Lord High Commissioner was shown a pencil drawing of his father as a child on the front of an old People's Friend magazine that had featured in the CrossReach 150th exhibition.

Heart for Art, the CrossReach creative arts group for those living with a diagnosis of dementia, was the final focus of the visit before the Lord High Commissioner was presented with a Heart for Art print of a giraffe, which he said was one of his favourite animals.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and Betty is fast becoming something of a social media star!
