Moderator visits Inverness Counselling Services

Homemade pumpkin cake was enjoyed as reflections were held on the work counselling services at CrossReach do during a visit from the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
Rt Rev Dr Shaw Paterson, stopped by CrossReach Counselling Inverness earlier this month as part of a two-day visit to CrossReach Highland services.
Amidst a very busy few days the Moderator was reminded of the importance of 'Being Still' with a lovely devotion led by Alison Shanks, administrator within the counselling team.
Whilst on his visit, Dr Paterson engaged in a productive discussion with staff at the service about the work they do and the challenges that are being faced.
Counselling managers Feri Collins and Claire Rochester presented on the service, including detailing that anxiety and stress were the most common reason for requiring support.
They also discussed the importance of having trained counselling professionals with a drive to ensure that every client’s voice is listened to for as long as they need.
Staff work with clients for up to 20 sessions depending on their needs. This gives clients enough space and time to build a trust with their therapist.
Finally, they discussed the financial impacts on the service, thanking the financial supporters for their contributions to CrossReach.
After hearing the presentation, and enjoying a tour of the building, Dr Paterson commended the staff for their hard work.
