Scotland's drug death tragedy

"People with lived experience have a crucial role in offering hope and encouragement." - Vic Walker (CrossReach Head of Service Adult Care)

"We really welcome the Scottish Government renewed focus on tackling the drug death tragedy.

"CrossReach delivers a range of services that recognise the importance of harm reduction and abstinence recovery. We have long seen the benefit of residential rehab in aiding people to completely break free from substance use, discover their full potential and use their experiences to help others.  We particularly welcome the fact that additional funds are being made available for residential rehab and that people will have easier access to it.

"Our experience shows positive activities are needed to fill the void when drugs and alcohol are left behind.  Our recovery volunteer training programme helps people use their experiences for the benefits of others and in so doing, they discover the skills and attributes they have to offer, restoring hope, self-worth and purpose. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our most recent graduates on Friday 29th January 2021.

"If Scotland is to address the drug death tragedy, it will require all of our efforts.  People with lived experience have a crucial role in offering hope and encouragement to those who have not yet found recovery."
