Shetland Youth Volunteering Awards

The Annual Shetland Youth Volunteering Awards took place in November. Running into its ninth year, the awards ceremony was an opportunity to recognise young volunteers and the organisations that support them.

Twenty-four organisations and teams of volunteers were nominated for three awards. Elaine Nisbet, Service Manager at our The Walter and Joan Gray care home, nominated Carla Tait for an individual award. From many nominees, Carla was shortlisted as a finalist. This nomination was a wonderful opportunity to thank Carla for her hard work and support. As Elaine Nisbet heartily states: ‘she did so well’.

The Walter and Joan Gray offers unique opportunities for young volunteers in Shetland. From her positive experience of volunteering at CrossReach, Carla additionally nominated the care home for an award for which they were also shortlisted as a finalist.

Voluntary Action Shetland executive officer Catherine Hughson said: “Volunteers are the life blood for many community activities and we can be proud of all their achievements.”

Congratulations to everyone shortlisted and congratulations to the winners: Filsket Riding Club, Police Scotland Youth Volunteers and Rona.
