Martin Walsh, Head of Care
Ballikinrain near Killearn, Stirlingshire, provides residential care for up to 12 children and young people, aged 8 to 16 years, who have experienced significant trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences.
Over the last 3 years we have been in a transition period, moving our service model from a large residential campus to smaller houses in communities, with education provided from our new school campus in Erskine, Renfrewshire (opened in August 2018).
We will continue to provide residential care from the Ballikinrain campus until new residential accommodation, within driving distance of our Erskine campus, becomes available.
Our staff team is structured to ensure optimum support for children & young people, with each learning community comprising of Service Leader, Team Leaders, GIRFEC Lead and Support Practitioners and Night Care Practitioners.
Every child & young person we support has their own plan as outlined in Getting It Right for Every Child, identifying specific outcomes to meet their needs within the context of their unique story. These are based around both the Well Being indicators and Curriculum for Excellence 4 Capacities. We fully engage children & young people, their parents and carers, in identifying the key areas for change in their physical and emotional health and wellbeing.
Our 24 hour Curriculum provides opportunities for experiential learning out with the formal education programme, enabling young people to take responsibility for their own learning and encourages sharing and team work.
