Open Day at the Transitions Day Service

This summer the Transitions Day Service in Edinburgh opened it’s doors to the general public to host its first ever open day!

Held on a lovely afternoon in June, the open day was an opportunity to showcase the great work the service does, meet the customers who use the service and for introductions to the staff who support them. Cheerful smiles and colourful decorations welcomed the guests, who enjoyed tea and cakes and a tour of the newly completed garden.

Part of the afternoon’s festivities was a presentation to thank the event’s sponsor, the Algrade Trust who have supported the service since it began. As Transitions made plans to begin operations in 2019, the Trust generously donated £8,000 for building works and for the purchase of furniture for the building. This year, they donated an additional £5,000 for the service’s garden project, which included the construction of a greenhouse and a wheelchair accessible path. These renovations provide customers with a safe outdoor space to relax and to grow and harvest vegetables all year round.

Part of the funding will also be shared with the Slateford Green Community Garden, who partner with Transitions, to create community events and activities throughout the year.

"Without the support and funding that we have been given, the Transitions Day Service would not have had this opportunity to do what we have done over the years.”

Debbie Phillips, Senior Support Worker

The open day was a great way to mark this new season at Transitions.
