'Read To Me' Day

On International ‘Read To Me‘ Day, 19th March, a large selection of donated books were delivered to HMP, Perth, for their Book Swap initiative. In partnership with the Scottish Prison Service, CrossReach provide a therapeutic welcoming space for all visitors in the waiting area of the Prison. There, visiting families can access bookcases of children’s and adults’ books, and/or swap a book. A great initiative!

The delivery was from local children’s author Noreen A. Hickey (who had collected several bags of books from kind-hearted neighbours) and Pitlochry Station Bookshop’s volunteers, Bobby McGraw (Manager) and Vivienne Cree. The Bookshop, which does so much for charities, generously donated a plentiful supply of books to the Prison.

Elaine Waugh, Manager of CrossReach Visitors’ Support and Advice Centre, commented that the Book Swap is successfully up and running and being enjoyed by families. A warm thanks to all involved.
