'Doing School' Differently

Pupils from Erskine Waterfront Campus are ‘doing school' differently at the moment – but we’re delighted to say that the learning hasn’t stopped!

From maths to music lessons, English to outdoor skills, ICT to baking, the children in the residential houses are using online portals, such as Glow and Teams, with support from their key teacher and an allocated member of staff, to submit evidence of their continuing learning and creativity.

Of course, these portals can also be used for just keeping in touch with each other too!

Senior pupils are being supported to complete SQA course work and to look to the future by filling in college forms and completing job applications.

For those pupils who are learning at home with family members, support is given daily over the telephone for both educational and welfare purposes.  Each week families can receive a package of food, treats, new worksheets and challenges!

One pupil took part in the 5 Day Challenge; a daily scavenger hunt based on the name of a football team! Each morning at 10:30, a different football team name was sent out via text and they had to find items around the house beginning with the initial of each letter of the team. Once they were all gathered together the items had to be woven into one story – great fun and great learning all rolled into one!

During this time of ‘doing’ school differently, science experiments, Lego creations and new found IT skills are all being taught, self-taught and shared. Mums, dads, carers, support staff and the Care and Education team are all rising to the challenge of new settings and new teaching methods to make sure our young people are supported, safe, learning and having fun.
